Event ID: 11708 on any installation

I am trying to install Adobe Reader 6.0.1. It will start to install and when
it gets to the end it rollsback and an Event Log is made. Here are the
details on the Event Log:

Event ID:11708
Source: MsiInstaller

Description:

Product:Adobe Reader 6.0. -- Installation Operation failed


This happens with any program I try to install. I am on Windows XP Service
Pack 2.

"Check the permissions on the installation folder. Add the Everyone group
with Read, Read and Execute, and List Folder Contents permissions."

You're not trying to install on a removable disk or so?

MSI does not like that.
