Ethernet Adapter trouble

hi, first post
i have a toshiba satellite A80 series notebbok with a marvell yukon 88e8036 pci-e fast ethernet adapter preinstalled
I tried to connect my cable modem to my pc using an ethernet cable but i could not establish a connection to the internet.

however, i was sucessful when i tried the same through usb cable.
also the system does not show the ethernet adapter under the network adapter list.

what should i do?

does the adapter show up in device manager ?

thanks me for the reply.no the adapter does not show up in the device manager. but when i scan the system for network adapters i get the following results:

[00000002] Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
[00000012] Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
[00000014] Microsoft TV/Video Connection
[00000015] Bluetooth PAN Network Adapter
[00000017] D-Link USB Remote NDIS Network Device

when i plug in the usb cable the system detects a network and starts a LAN connection but nothin happens with the ethernet cable

im using windows xp home edition sp 2

it seems as though there aren't any drivers for XP , what discs do you have with it ?

also is that the correct model No ?
