Please don't take offense, but this is a freeware forum. Your program
may be good, but it isn't freeware, so please promote it somewhere
else.

I'm not connected with the company at all. I've been looking for a PIM
for a while and thought this offer was worth passing on. I use this ng
frequently and would not wish to offend.

I don't recall seeing him being offended when this offer was mentioned
earlier this week. Similar "FREE" offers for Linspire and Opera have
also been published in this group recently. I for one am grateful for
this type of information.

Thanks for the compliment! I will pray for you. :)

I am aware there is a free version, but that is not what the OP was
referring to.

Did you object when Opera offered their free licences for a limited
period -- that is, *before* they made it freeware, when it was still
most definitely *not* freeware?

If not, why are you picking on PIM for doing the same thing?

However, he *was* referring to the issuing of free licences for the
paid-for version -- that's been done for other programs here, without
complaints being raised.

I'm happy to acknowledge, though, that this group always did cut Opera
way, way more slack in the definition of "free" than it allowed other
programs to get away with...

Sorry to be a stickler for detail, but on 1 Nov only, it is freeware.

"free upgrades for 1 year or until the 2.99 version of EssentialPIM
Pro, whichever is longer" doesn't fall within my personal definition of
freeware. I suppose there has to be some latitude here, but I think we
should strive to limit the discussion in this group to true freeware.

No. It's free forever after that date if you choose to download it and
presumably get it activated.
I posted the link as I said - because I came across it. So what if it's
payware ? IF you get it tomorrow, it's FREE and can be used for as long
as you want. FREE.

If anything I should be popped at for duping a previous post.

I'm actually using another FREE PIM but as it has a payware cousin I'll
be careful not to mention it.

But doesn't that just mean "not only free, but also coming with some
free upgrades"?

Would you have a problem with "free but not upgradeable to future
versions", or does including time-limited *upgrades* make it non-
freeware?

If you dod, I feel that "last freeware versions" must logically not
count as freeware, on the basis that there are upgrades out there which
are being charged for.

Your "personal definition" of "true" freeware is, according to my
personal definition, too restrictive.

Some people get a bit religious about these things.

Thanks for posting the link to a free version of a good product.

If you aren't interested in the offer ignore the post! Why screw it up
for others who are interested in the offer?

FYI: Their is a freeware version of Essential PIM!

Exactly it is only free if you obtain it on Nov 1

Why not? Most freeware doesn't even promise that upgrades will stay
free for a year, and definitely not a future version.

EssentialPIM has a freeware version which in my opinion is an excellent
program. I use the portable one. I am not linked in any way to
EssentialPIM. I used to use xdesk95, which by the way went shareware (I
still have the last freeware version), now I use EssentialPIM freeware
portable version, which is by far superior to any PIM. Leave these guys
alone.

I am downloading the freebie they are giving away and that is that. To
be honest with you guys (and gals) had I not read about the free
giveaway on this forum I would have not knowing.

three hours to go. What time is it?
