error when trying to acces scanner

dennis

I am running w2k sp4. I recently installed software for a
digital camera and an mp3 player. After installing these
two devices when ever I try to acces my scanner(epson2400)
I get the error message " the instruction at"0x7c2d2623"
referenced memory at "0xfffefdfc". the memory could not be
read."
I searched the MS knowledge base and found and found
article# 267858 that talked about this error.their
solution for this problem is to get the latest service
pack. the trouble is I am all ready running the latest
service pack.I have uninstalled all the software that was
installed scince the last time the scanner worked
properlyand tried reinstalling the scanner software.
anyone have any other suggestions? other than a clean
install of windows i am out of ideas . any help would be
really aprreciated.
Thanks Dennis

I have a similar problem
HP Multifunction machine, printer, fax, copier all recognized by W2K, SP4, but the scanner cannot be read/or installed
It keeps saying scanner not connected
I spent 4 hours with MS tech support to reinstall Win2K, over the top of my current installed system, to remove SP4
Then I installed the printer again with no change. I'm back to SP4 with every update and fix posted in windows update and the scanner is not seen by WIN2K SP4..

Someone needs to fix this, or I just wasted 500 bucks...
Dell Inspiron 8000, P3, 1Ghz, 512 RAM, 20 G HD, Win2K, SP4...

You gotta be kidding us? Did you really spend $500 trying to get this
fixed? If yes you spent more than your pc or the HP multifunction is
worth. Did you try HP support instead of MS, it seems to be an HP
problem, not MS. Now get up and stand close to the wall, lean forward
abruptly until your head comes to a dead stop. Repeat at least half a
dozen times. Then call me, I have a real nice bridge for sale...

No I spent the 500 bucks on the HP Multifunction
machine...Actually I think it was $450 or so by the time I
got the extra ink and some papers...

I reinstalled W2K to dump SP4, then tried to reload the
printer. I got a message that the MSI Installer was not
valid...HUH?
I got no where fast and figured that something needed
updating so I went back to the MS site to get the SP 4 and
a bunch of updates....I updated everything, made sure the
printer was totally removed and then defragged overnight...
I reinstalled the HP yesterday afternoon and all went
well, expcet now I get a message that certain required
files for the scanner were missing....The machine is
connected and prints fine...

So I gave up for the evening. Then this AM, Sunday Jan
4th...I fire up and sit down with coffee to surf...strange
noise running and I notice the CPU is 100%...Task manager
shows that the STISVC.EXE is stuck and the CPU is 100%. I
cannot shutdown the STISVC either...

OK, uninstall again...CPU is normal....

Reinstall and were back at 100% CPU load...and the error
message that certain files are missing when the scanner is
addressed....

I uninstalled for the evening and will be calling HP
tomorrow AM....

By the afternoon, I might just be ready to look at that
bridge you mentioned...

Go in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services and set the Still
Image Service to "Manual" Start and see if things change. You should
still be able to scan, the HP scanner will/should manually load
STISVC.EXE if and when it needs it and unload it when done.

Oh, by the way the "certain" missing files are probably USB related they
should be in driver.cab on your hard drive or the Windows 2000 cd. Also
make sure you have all the LATEST available drivers from HP.
