Error when disabling Auto Restart.

My Windows XP Home computer has been coming up with an
error message, that some system service, (I can't remember
which on because I panic), and the system will be
automatically restarted. Then a timer is counting down 29
seconds.

It happened right after I turned off my Internet Firewall
on my dial-up connection.

So then I went to my Startup and Recovery settings to
uncheck "Automatically restart". That is ALL I did. When
I closed it, this message came up:
----------------------
If the pagefile on volume C has an initial size of less
than 223 megabytes, then the system may not be able to
create a debugging information file if a STOP error
occurs. Continue anyway? YES - NO
--------------------------

I have no idea what is meant by this message and there IS
no settings on that dialog where I can set this.

Does anyone know how I might correct this?
Thanks.

Hi Nancy,

First correct the problem causing the machine to reboot. Likely it is the
blaster virus. Information:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100499.htm
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html
http://www.bigblackglasses.com/Article.aspx?Article=342

You need the patch described here to protect against it:

MS03-026: Buffer Overrun in RPC Interface May Allow Code Execution
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823980

Problem is, you needed to install the patch BEFORE you got infected to avoid
it. As to the virtual memory problem, that occurs when the minimum initial
size of the pagefile is set to a size smaller than the amount of ram
installed on the system. It is not critical unless you can read memory dump
files and like debugging. You can change these settings from the control
panel/system applet, go to the advanced tab and click on performance
settings. Go to the advanced tab and click 'change'. Most users are set to
have a windows-managed pagefile, someone may have changed yours for whatever
reason.

The important part of your message is the timer that is countiong down to
restart the computer. This is an indication that the system is infected with
the Blaster.worm.

See the following website for removal instructions.

Wow! You guys were right. I was infected with that virus,
but my anti-virus software took care of it.
Silly me.... I did not relate the incidents to the virus.
Now that my system is rid of the virus, my computer is
running smooth again.
I am finally going to download the patch from Microsoft.
The reason I've put it off is because the last time I
installed a MS patch on my Windows Me computer, it seemed
to ruin the computer to the point that I have to reformat
and reinstall Windows. The computer was working great for
two years before that. Not sure if that was the culprit
though.

Thanks everyone.
