Error Upon Waking From Hibernation -> Error ID: 40 -- Source: i8042prt

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FXA47. I have the 5.2.510.9 Alps touchpad
driver running on Windows XP Home with SP2.

When waking from hibernation, I'll sometimes get an error in system
log (Event Viewer) with an "Error ID: 40" and "Source: i8042prt". The
description error message says, "An error occurred while trying to
acquire the device ID of the mouse."

I just wiped out my entire drive and reinstalled everything and
installed SP2 for the first time. Everything went fine, but when I
was running only SP1, I never saw this error before. The error right
now is not consistent. I've seen it only a few times. I've not yet
tested this theory, but could this error message come up if I touch
the touchpad before XP wakes up entirely from hibernation? I will
test this theory (not that I like errors in my logs).

Just wanted to see if anyone else has seen this error before. I
couldn't find any posts with this exact description error message, but
I saw some 'other' i8042prt posts.

Oh, and when this error is logged in the system log, the time stamp is
right at the time of waking up from hibernation. And even though the
error is logged, the touchpad still works upon fully waking from
hibernation. But there is no mention in the log of a "recovery" from
this error.

Thanks for the help.

A follow-up to my own post:

Well, I tried touching the touchpad during waking from Hibernation,
but did not receive an error message. Have not yet received this
error message again. I'm going to continue to not touch the touchpad
during waking from Hibernation and we'll see if this keeps the error
message away and can be classified as a true "solution".
