using windows xp, outlook 2002. When I try sending a fax it opens up photo
editor and the fax won't send. How do I fix this problem? I can fax fine
using the fax console but want to send from outlook so I can add
attachments. Thanks!

List the precise steps you are using to send this fax from Outlook. In what
format are you sending this fax? Are there attachments?

I'm using the fax program that comes with xp. I'm using outlook 2002.
While in inbox I compose new message. I select Fax Mail Transport from
accounts. I access my address book to select recipient. Type fax message
and hit send. When I hit send It starts Microsoft photo editor but the
properties of photo editor come up as a jpg. I have to do alt ctl delete to
close photo editor, it just sits there, doesn't open, just comes up and goes
to the task bar. I can send a fax from Microsoft word no problem by
selecting send to fax recipient. It's just sending the fax from outlook.
Fax Mail Transport is installed as one of my email accounts in outlook.
Checked that already. I can also use the fax console no problem. It's only
from outlook. It worked when I first installed it so I'm figuring it's some
program I installed but have no idea what nor how to fix it. Would
appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Linda

Most often, this problem arises because some other imaging application that
you installed has set itself as the default viewer and rendering program for
TIF files. The Windows Imaging and Fax viewer must be your default
application for the printto: verb for TIF files. You can easily restore that
setting in Windows Explorer > Folder Options. File Types. "

Is this the correct setting for printto:

rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_PrintTo /pt "%1" "%2"
"%3" "%4"

If so makes no difference. I uninstalled photo editor, now when I try to
send a fax it comes back immediately as undeliverable. I do thank you for
your help.

Here's the statement that works here:
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_PrintTo /pt "%1" "%2"
"%3" "%4"

Next question: What is there in your message that would require rendering?
Do you have some graphic in there, like in your signature? What happens if
you send a plain text message as a fax?

Well I'm not sure what finally worked but it works!. I uninstalled and
reinstalled the fax program and copied your information exactly into
printto. I also noticed I had selected a stationery so went back to a plain
background. Thanks you!!!!! Linda

Now one more question, while I was trying different things in the folder
options I selected printto as the default. Does that matter or can I undo
that?

You selected printto as the default for what?
You need to leave the printto verb for TIF files set to the Windows Picture
and Fax viewer to fax successfully from Outlook 2002. Outlook 2003 is
another story entirely--a very long and ugly one.

Edit File Types, Actions: Open and printto - I hit default for printto
(right side of box where is says new, edit, remove, set default). It's set
for Windows Picture and Fax viewer for printto verb for TIF files . It's
working okay so I guess there's no problem. Just wondered what the default
actually meant
