Error Messsage While trying to burn

I am trying to burn my video to a dvd. Im getting a message a recordable cd
drive was not detected.

Can I burn my movie or do I need a new computer or external hard drive?

Directions from xp say to go in to add/remove programs and click HP DLA and
remove, but I do not have an HP/DLA program.

Any help is appreciated.
