error message

Just installed WD 160 g hd with 8m cache, I am using it as a storage device
instead of boot device.
system - 2.53 intel, asus P4PE mobo, 1g mem radeon 9700 vid.
the hd is just going to store games, photos, music, I keep operating sys. on
maxtor 40g hd along with tools and apps. My problem is after installing some
games and short cuts to desktop when I double click them I get an error
message IE: The application failed to initialize properly. 0xc0000005 click
OK to terminate the app.
but if I reboot my pc I can than dble clik on the shortcut and the game will
boot
I have looked thru all ms faqs and error messages and can find nothing simular
