Error message

When clicking on TOOLS >> OPTIONS >> OTHER tab >> DEFAULT PROGRAMS button, I
get the following error message:

There was a problem loading the 'Set a Default Program' Page. (Error Code:
80070483)

I have tried resetting the program associations that I believe this error
code refers to, but the page will not load correctly. I believe it affects
another issue in my office programs, namely mail merge?

Office 2007 Professional. Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ask in a Vista newsgroup. This doesn't appear to be an Outlook-specific
problem.

I don't know why it would not be an Outlook issue? All the error messages
appear while in Outlook and trying to set OUTLOOK options!

No where in your original post did you ever mention Outlook.

You are right. However, I figured since I specifically posted this in the
Outlook section in the sub-section of the issue I was having that would be
obvious, but on re-reading my post I can see the confusion. Thanks you.

Do you know a solution?

Did you try a repair install of Office?

J

Yes, several times. Each time it report no errors. And the problem
persists. I know that some other functions do not work in Vista x.64 such as
printing to OneNote. Is this another area where Microsoft fails to support
it's own products, or is there a real solution?

It still sounds like something in Windows internals to me, but I've no
experience with the 64 bit version.

OK, thanks for trying.

I'd like to mention I've got this problem with Outlook, too. I don't know
what I did to create this problem, and since one of the Vista diagnosing
tools tells you to ask for help in these communities, I'd like to thank Brian
for being such a huge help telling you to get out, JJ. And in the first
comment! I bet that's why you've got a MVP title.

Like JJ, I'm using Office 2007 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Is Office 2007
incompatible with x64 Vista?

Hi Anthony:

I feel precisely as you and came to the same conclusion. I have asked these
questions in other threads and get the same non-answers. Clearly Microsoft
has released two incompatible platforms, and they don't want to tell us.

But it is too obvious to hide. And they wonder why people buy MAC's? If at
least they could be honest about it.

about that. I have posted the questions in other threads and I get the same

My own experience with that sort of thing has always led to an ugly truth
that was intentionally hidden. But they cannot hide from the obvious.

And they wonder why people buy Mac's?

I've got the problem, too. It appears both 1) after clicking the "Default
programs..." button in Outlook 2007 > Options > Other and 2) in Control Panel
(Classic View) when selecting Default Programs > Set Default Programs >
Microsoft Office Outlook > Choose defaults for this program.

After the error message in Control Panel appears, I am presented with a
dialog box (Set Program Associations) listing Microsoft Office Outlook, an
unchecked "Select All" checkbox, and a partially-visible list of Name,
Description and Current Default values. Widening the columns, I can see
Extensions (.ibc, .ics, .hol, .msg, .vcf, .vcs) and Protocols (MAILTO,
STSSYNC, WEBCAL, WEBCALS, OUTLOOKFEED, OUTLOOKFEEDS). All of the extensions
themselves are checked, but none can be unchecked.

Note the the problem first became apparent when my wife reported crashes
when 1) Outlook was open and 2) she right clicked on a jpeg file and selected
Send to Mail Recipient.

Yes, it is definitely a flaw in the operating system, and the lame answers we
get are clues to me that Microsoft is just hiding and/or ignoring the issue.
Does not improve customer loyalty.

Thanks for posting.
