error message

After changing my default browser to fire fox, I get an error message
'windows cannot find etc.' when I click on any of my desk top shortcut icons
of other favourite shortcuts, Then the site I've requested is displayed ok.
Has this something to with me changing my default browser?

Try importing your favorites from IE to FireFox, it should then recognize
them.

Thanks Jason. I'd already done this and don't have a problem when clicking
on a bookmark. It's just my desk top icons that display the error message.
I've tried deleting them and dragging and dropping the icon from the address
bar of sites onto my desk top but still get the error message.

Yes, I found exactly the same prob. I'm surprised no-one else has posted
anything. Its quite anoying. I guess MS are happy to let us struggle on -
since we're not using their browser....

It's a known bug with Firefox. Checking with the manufacturers of the
product that scuppered you would have revealed this - as would simply
searching with Google. I typed this

installed firefox click shortcut "windows cannot find"

(which was all you reported of the message you were getting) into Google and
got this as first hit (of ~758) - it looks promising:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_error_opening_Internet_shortcut_or_local_HTML_file_-_Firefox

As it says there, if you do need to do the registry-editing part, take
precautions and care - or ask someone else who's reliable to do it for you.
If you don't, you might end up with an unbootable system.

No need for sarcastic comments about Microsoft, timread! (Not this time,
anyway!) "I guess MS are happy to let us struggle on - since we're not using
their browser"; if you replaced the stereo in your new Mondeo with one that
you thought would be better, but it turned out to have lousy reception,
wouldn't stay tuned in and CDs kept sticking - would you complain to Ford?
