John,

This is most likely caused by a syntax error in Sysoc.inf (have you modified
it?). Extracting a new copy from XP CD should help.

Insert the Windows XP CD in the drive.
Click Start/Run and type CMD
In the Command Prompt, type this line:

expand X:\i386\sysoc.in_ -r c:\windows\inf

Where X:\ is your CD-ROM drive letter. The above command assumes Windows is
installed in C:\ drive. If not, change the drive letter / Path accordingly.

Example: expand H:\i386\sysoc.in_ -r g:\windows\inf

Frances,

Can you publish the contents of sysoc.inf somewhere on the web. Or, send it to me via e-mail.

Mr. Ramesh, I am a computer novice and I am having the same problem
with not being able to open my Add/Delete Windows Components.
Unfortunately, my pc came with XP already loaded so I don't have a cd.
Is there any way I can fix this? I think I screwed up my system by
removing some MSM software and taking stuff off that I should have left
on! My error message says 0x2 at line 2088999411, then a pop up box
says msnmsn.info missing. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks.

Ramesh..I have this same problem and tried your solution without success. Do
you have other suggestions. Also System restore will create restore points
but is unable to restore. Thanks

Problem solved..apparently I was missing the wordpad.inf file..so using your
instructions toadd it worked wonderfully. Now I'm still unable to restore
any points
