Error message: The Page Cannot Be Displayed

J

John Fox

I am getting an error message which cannot be solved.
Message is "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" accompanied
by "Unable to locate server". I have triple checked all
settings, re-installed IE6 - without success. ISP also
unable to determine reason for problem. Connection appears
to be established, but unable to open anything.
Interestingly, path Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Search
from the Address bar defaults to "Do not search from the
Address bar" and won't permanently change to anything
else. I am using IE6 and Win98SE.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Writing this on borrowed notebook.

Could be a parasite calling his server and it's down or closed.

You have IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

or:

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

In the event you can not access a site and you believe it may be due to an
entry in the HOSTS file.

You can use a simple batch file to rename the HOSTS file "on-the-fly".
