Just got a new Dell computer XPS 410. The first time I started using the
computer I would receive the following error message:
Instruction at "0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014".
The memory could not be "read" would come up when I logged out of my
computer to shut down after being on the internet. Some times I can log off
and no error message shows.
Also I found out my Windows Error Reporting in the System Information report
folder is filled with reports.
Says the following; MsiInstaller Detection of product
'{1A15507A-8551-4626-915D-3D5FA095CC1B}, feature'_ISUS' failed. It seems to
not end.
Why the error when logging off & is this normal to have so many error
reports. Should they be deleted?

Hope to find answer. My computer at work never had such problems.
I have contacted Dell technical support. They have not been much help.

As for your first error message....

This may be caused by spyware/malware that's gotten installed on
your system. Use Ad-Aware, Windows Defender and/or Spybot Search & Destroy
to remove it.

Windows Defender
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Good sites on how to install and use Spybot -

Also download a winsock repair tool, to have just in case cleaning up
anything found breaks it -

Winsock repair tools:
LSPFix- all versions of Windows http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip
Winsock2 Fix- Win98, ME

LavaSoft- all versions of Windows-

If all the above fails, then the problem could be something new that the
spyware cleaners above don't have in their databases yet. In that case....
HijackThis direct download:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
Tutorial on how to use HijackThis:

Then post it's output log to the forum here for analysis and feedback by the

Or one of the other HijackThis Logs forums listed here:

Or try this program to get some of the most nasty malware:

Try to see if an add-on to IE is causing your problem. You can troubleshoot
this within the browser:

Now, as for your second error message, dealing with
1A15507A-8551-4626-915D-3D5FA095CC1B - that would appear to be associated
with Corel Paint Shop Pro -

Corel Paint Shop Pro X 10.0 ({1A15507A-8551-4626-915D-3D5FA095CC1B})
version: 167772160
version (major): 10

install location: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Paint Shop Pro X\
uninstall cmd: MsiExec.exe /I{1A15507A-8551-4626-915D-3D5FA095CC1B}
publisher: Corel Inc

I'd uninstall and reinstall it.

If no joy, it could be that Dell's Update Manager is failing to update the
program somehow. Go to Start...Settings...Control Panel...Update
Manager...Update settings tab, and uncheck Corel Paintshop Pro. You may
want to disable all the auto updates by clicking the radio button at the
top.

If still no joy, clean up the installer files for that program by using the

I have Norton Internet Security 2006. This has Auto-Protect with Spyware
Blocking and other risks. Can adding an additional program such as Windows
Defender conflict with Norton?

Norton ran a full scan and has detected no spyware or other risks. Could
Norton not be detecting it?

Do you know if Norton protects aganist malware?

I updated Corel Paint Pro X 10.0. My Update Manager indicated a update.

I will check for any future error reports. Do existing error reports remain
in the Windows Error Reporting folder? Are they timed out?

In regard to IE add ons. My Manage Add-ons does not give me the option to
update ActiveX my currently loaded Add-ons.

Thank you for the reply.
If you have addtional information for the above it would be appreciated.

NIS 2006 does have spyware protection, but not all programs can detect or
clean all infections. That's why it's a good idea to run two or three
programs, and all the ones I recommended are free. They should not
interfere with each other.

As for error reports via that System Information tool - Tools...Dr. Watson -
those logs are kept here - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
You can set how you want those errors saved and how many. Usually, the
oldest one is deleted as a new one is created.

Error reports via the Event Viewer - Start...Settings...Control
Panel...Administrative Tools - those logs are limited to 512 K by default,
and can be changed by highlighting the log you want, then going to
Action....Properties.

To see if you can update any ActiveX controls on your system, in IE go to
Tools...Internet Options...General tab...Settings...View Objects. You can
right click any file and then Update. It will search it's origin site for
an update and offer to install if available.

I contacted Norton about the spyware. They had me go to there web site and
run a program which they said runs a more compete scan. It found no spyware
or threats.

I will try running the spyware programs you mentioned.

I think the error report "0x0000014" is coming from Adobe Reader 7.0. I get
this after signing off from my computer after being on the internet. I was
told to uninstall the program and reinstall it to solve the problem.

I also shut off Dells InstallShield Update manager and unchecked Corel Paint
Shop Pro x and Corel Photo Album 6. I still am getting error reports daily
like this:
{8A9B8148-DDD7-448F-BD6C-358386D 32354} feature PaintshopPhotoalbum faied
request for component etc.

Why am I still getting the error reports,

Thank you for your continued support.

i hope yuo can shed more light so I can use my computer for what in was
intended for not on the phone with delld tech support who seem to have no
answers.
