Error Message on XP Home Installation after Formatting

Due to some vast issues on a game hard drive that I used separately as not to
have it become infected by other family members in their daily use of the
internet on a common computer, I forgot to swithch it out and it became hosed
with something that I could never delete entirely. I decided to just start
with a fresh XP install.

Everything started well, but after the drive reformatted the following
message appeared:the following value in the .sif file used by setup is
corrupted or missing: value 0 on the line in section [source disks files]
with key "SP1.CAB. Setup can not continue.

Everything on the drive is gone to even attempt anything.

Thank you

The system was self built. I've tried everthing stated, plus "others" before
presenting this post. So, in a nutshell, this drive is just a paper weight.

Another question:

How can this problem be avoided in the future when installing a Windows
Operating System on a previously used drive?

Thank You

Adding to mark, try to unattach the gaming HDD and just start with one HDD
which the installation will be on it and also try to unattach printers all
peripherals from the computer just start with Mouse, keyboard and monitor.
Delete the Partitions and create new ones and format them.
Also try to See the BIOS settings and make the first boot up is the CD then
the HDD.
HTH.
Let us know.

Found a solution,at least in my case, that should work for other facing a
possible paper weight "hard drive". It got the hard drive to operate and I
was able to do a complete install of Windows XP, again.

All hard drive makers have software for troubleshooting that is available,
usually in their download section. For Maxtor, PowerMax utility has a program
that wrote zeros to the entire hard drive that I decided to try after reading
various articles on the internet that a corrupt sector could be overcome by
using this method. After doing this, the utility had other programs to check
the integrity of the drive. Everything checked out and I was on my way.

You may have a Boot sector Viruses which rendering your HDD useless and
corrupted the core structure of the Boot sector on that Drive.
Also you may left an Anti-virus ON, some anti-virus application can cause
trouble if you didn't disable or uninstall them before attempting new
installation.
In the Future if you have an issue like this before attempting the
installation do this:
- Check the HDD health by downloading the diagnostic tool from the HDD
manufacturer
- Disconnect any extra HDD, Printers, scanners, USB removable Drives, modems
and just start with mouse, keyboard and monitor to eliminate hardware
interference.
- get Rid of the Virus first from your system to be sure it will not be
lurking in the background upon reinstalling.
In the future assign (have a group policy) yourself as Administrator and
give others a limited Account and monitor PC usage and you can limit which
website can be accessed by that account.
Also overheating system can render the HDD useless overtime, so playing game
can cause such a behavior.
HTH.
