Error message on logging on

waussie

When I log onto XP everything works fine. When my Husband
logs on he gets a warning saying 'Windows cannot find
c:\windows\system32\services\wmplayer.exe. Make sure you
have typed the name correctly and then try again. To
search for a file, click the search button, and then click
search'. The only option is to click 'ok'.

Upon doing this he gets another error saying 'Desktop
cannot load or run c:\windows\system32
\services\wmplayer.exe specified in the registry. make
sure the file exists on computer or remove reference to it
in the registry. The only option is to click 'ok' and
everything seems to be ok. WMP9 plays ok.

Please can you let me know what I have to do to stop him
getting these error messages, especially as I do not get
them.

Thanks

Do you both have Administrative rights or is one the Administrator and the
other a User? You can change the settings to have equal rights in:
Start/Control Panel/User Accounts/Change an Account

After your husband logs on, one more step he can try if you
have not as yet resolved the problem.
Start/Run/type wmplayer.exe then click OK
When it finds the file, rightclick it and click "Pin to Start Menu"

Hi, i just installed win xp sp2, and i'm getting the same message. I tried
pinning the file to my start menu as well, but that didn't resolve the
problem. I also tried to uninstall and then reinstall wmp 10, but alas that
hasn't worked as well. The player itself works fine, it's just that the
message is a little annoying and i'd like to not see it each time i boot up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Check that no spyware is active - that is often the cause of wmplayer
being activated on startup.

well, i have the MS antispyware program as well as adaware, spybot, hijack
this, etc.

still no go.... just to give you a heads up, when i originally installed wmp
10, it would automatically come up on startup ( i hadn't pinned it at the
time ), i was actually trying to figure out how to stop that, but then i
installed sp2 which " sorta " took care of that problem....

so i'm assuming whatever made it start up automatically is still trying to,
it just can't find the link...

Try running "msconfig" at Start > Run, and check the Startup options there.
