This message appears related to the printer, and can be canceled without
apparent problem, but keeps appearing.

Can you please post a complete copy of the Error message?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Nothing shows up in the event viewer, and I haven't figured out how to paste
the graphics that show up at startup. Here are the two: (big red x appears
on the left)
-----
Session Controller dlcc: dlccmon.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c91142e" referenced memory at "0x00000001." The
memory could not be "read."

Click ok to terminate the program
Click cancel to debug the program
--------------
pressing cancel leaves everything apparently ok.
pressing ok leads to the below message:
-------------
Session Controller dlcc: dlccmon.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c910e03" referenced memory at "0x00000001." The
memory could not be "written."

Click ok to terminate the program
-------------------------------
clicking ok seems to leave the system ok.

You have a problem with your Dell All in One Printer!

Disconnect printer, uninstall software, reboot reinstall software
and reconnect printer.

If that doesn't provide a solution you need to try updating the driver.
What is the model? When and where ( country ) did you buy the
printer ?

Thanks, I was thinking so. It is a Dell 924 from Dell (US), and came with a
computer. I checked their updates for drivers, and did not pickup a need.
But, I will follow your suggestion, and also check for a newer driver. I'll
post the results.
