error: library not registered

Reto Ziegler

hi everybody
when I click on settigns in windows xp system restore, I
get "error: library not registered". I debugged it and the
error is at:
var shell = new ActiveXObject( "Wscript.Shell" );
shell.Run( "control sysdm.cpl,,4", 1, false );
I also get this error sometimes when I browse with
internet explorer.

what can I do to make this disappear?

Hi Reto,

Reinstall System Restore, and, if it's still not fixed, Internet Explorer.

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the sr.inf (for System Restore) file,
right-click it and choose install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).

For Internet Explorer, the steps are the same, except you want to use the
ie.inf file.

Hi Reto,

Start/run "sfc /scannow".

Did you make any system changes before this behavior started?
