I am getting error 81000314 when I try to log in. I can log in from the same
machine with another account, however.

Greetings,

The service is presently experiencing difficulties. When you sign into Messenger, your
contact information is actually stored on a specific server and you are redirected. As such,
the reason why one account will work whilst another one won't.

Hopefully it should all be resolved shortly.

Sorry but these messages havn't seemed to help any, everyone is stating the
problem, but know body is giving an informed answer.

I get the same error, it was fine, server dc'd and when I tries to log in

I have tried rebooting, installing msn live and run the connection repair

Hi,

I think it's an informed answer as it indicates that there's nothing you can do, there is no
solution here. It -IS- a server problem, you can reinstall Messenger till the moon falls
out of orbit, it's not going to help.

Hi,

Like any modern NOC, at the MSN NOC there is a real-time monitor for all Messenger, Hotmail,
etc. servers, they know instantly when something has broken.

the moon is getting farther away from the earth..

do you mean that when you say out of orbit?

:)

Hi,

In physics, an orbit is the path that an object makes, around another object, whilst under
the influence of a source of centripetal force, such as gravity.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbit

It's still on its path. Out of orbit would be plummeting to the Earth or heading towards
Mars or something.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbit

You really think I dont know this? lol

if it gets far enough it can escape the orbit if a large body hits it, like
an asteroid
because the gravitational pull would be so weak....
(but that is theoretical since it would take billions of years for it to get
far enough or
a huge object hitting the moon). So improbable but possible...

Are you quite sure this is the reason? I have two computers at home: the
first has Windows 98 and MSN Messenger 7.0 and the second has Windows XP Home
and Windows Live Messenger at the moment. The computers share one Internet
connection. My son uses a MSN account and it works fine with the first
computer. The same account worked also fine with the second computer, but
after I updated MSN Messenger to Windows Live Messenger he hasn't been able
to sign in with the second computer anymore. After the update all the
previous contacts were gone and now he is only getting error 81000314. And
with the first computer everything works fine and the contacts are available
all the time. It looks for me very much that the problem is in Windows Live
Messenger and not in some servers being down. Or could you please explain how
those servers being down are making this happen? Should I anyhow change back
to MSN Messenger? Thanks for the answer!
