Error 31

Chris Schulte

I have a new laptop with Windows XP Home edition on it and am trying to
connect to my ISDN line. I have installed a PC Card that works fine in other
laptops (with XP) and have set up my connections correctly, but every time I
try to
connect I get "Error connecting to [ISP]. Error 31: A device attached to the
system is not functioning". I cannot find any documentation pertaining to
Error 31 and I have gone through all the troubleshooting options to no
avail.

The modem is detected and the connection begins to be established but it
never makes it all the way through. The same PC card using the same dial-up
connections works fine in another laptop. I'm at my wits' end. Can anybody
help or point me in a direction to find help?

Many thanks!

Chris

Have a look in the Event Logs (using Event Viewer - see help and support).
The system log may have more details about the error (such as info on which
dll is causing the problem). Double click on a log entry to see more info
and a button to allow you to copy the details to the clip board so it can
be pasted into a newsgroup posting.
