error 2503/2502 duing program installation

I downloaded Adobe Reader 8.0 and it would not install due to an "internal
error 2503" followed by error 2502. I had the same problem the first time I
tried to install my HP printer/scanner. I resolved that problem by
uninstalling the printer and starting over, this time not connecting the
printer (usb) and turning it on (one of the optional steps of the intallation
disk) until the program was completely installed. When the printer was turned
on during the installation process, Windows detected the new hardware and
proceeded to install it while the installation program was still loading.
The printer is working now, but now I'm back to getting those pesky error
messages
again when I try to install Adobe Reader from a download. It gets more than
90% completed and then those error messages pop up with no explanation, just
"Internal error 2503" after clicking 'OK' or closing that window is followed
by "Internal error 2502" and the installation could not be completed. I've
checked with the Microsoft Help site and found little information other than
a system time and date setting problem during the installation of Office XP
or Windows 2000, or some kind of Terminal Server Error message and an
unsupported MS-DOS function. I can't uninstall Adobe and start over like I
did with the printer software because I haven't been able to install it yet,
so I'm stuck trying to figure out what these error messages mean and how to
fix them. Any thoughts wolud be appreciated.

In following the directions of this article the following may help:

Get the winrar utility and install it. (It shouldn't throw this error on you
as the install is mostly file based)

After the install go ahead and right click on the reader 8 executable. You
should see as one of the options extract files. Click on that and extract
the files to a temporary location.

Now open that location and then rename the "reader8.msi" file. You can name
it whatever you like, just make sure there is an msi extension at the end of
it.

Now run the file that you renamed.

Let us know how that works.
