Epson V700 scanner

Rob

I have just acquired an Epson V799 scanner. Using Epson scan which came
with the scanner.

Have two film size problems.

After working out how to use the bits and finding the film sizes I can't
scan my 6x4.5 film seems has a default is 16 frame where as mine is a
15 frame Mamiya 645, hence only the first and last frames are fully
scanned the middle ones have black bars across. 6x9 setting is no help
either.

Secondly how do I scan 6x17 film there is no default setting. (6x9 is
the largest)

thanks

BTW silverafast came with the scanner but can't find any defaults in
that to scan my film sizes.

thanks.

Rob, first, DON'T use predefined defualt sizes. turn off auto thumbnails.
Do a prescan, and use the marquee tool to select the scan area for each
frame. Works, I too have the V700 and have used it for 120 negs including
my old Mamyia 6x9 negs.

Thanks Ill give that a go. Just a whole new learning curve.

I have a Minolta Dimage Scan Multi PRO which I haven't used for years.
Now want to scan my 6x17 film which I had to stitch previously and
thought the V700 was the universal answer but it keeps putting up problems.

The V700 is definitly not as good as the Minolta in some respects or is
it my old film?

Rob, the Epson is very good, but my Nikon LS4000ED is better, as one would
expect from a dedicated slide scanner. But bad old film is bad old film.
With good film 120 slide film I get excellent results from the Epson as,
like you, I cannot scan that size on my film scanner.

It came from a promotional package deal with a 24" printer I don't think
I'd go out and buy a flatbed to scan tranny or neg material.

Even the resolution of the Minolta scanner 3200dpii?? (4800dpi for 35mm
stuff) was a hugh file size to handle. More than adequate. Did get
something like a 100Mb file for a 6x7 tranny, no one ever wanted that
size for publishing.

Going through my old negs there has been colour shifts to contend with.

I haven't shot film since 2003 but would like to start using my 6x17
Linhof again with tranny film as it gives a nice feel to the image
unlike stitching multiable images.

Rob, I use Vuescan and at top 4000dpi and 48bit scanning 35mm blow out to
TIFF file of 110Mb! This is for archiving. I post-process with photoshop for
normal use, reducing the image by 30% and then JPG to around 250kb which is
fine for viewing or 6 x 4 printing.

The Epson should do you fine for your 6 x 7.

I'm thinking that way as well.

I did buy Vuescan many years ago have to check if its still upgradeable.
