Epson Stylus 500

Yikes, I have a Epson Stylus Color 500, 6 yrs old, a usually reliable
workhorse but won't print black ink, even with a new cartridge. I went to
Epson site and tried various fixes, no help.

I was away form system for 8 days, printer not in use at all, and wonder if
that is a clue.

I tried cleaning heads to no avail also.

Appreciate any recommends.

tks all

Hi,

I'm assuming you've gone through multiple cleaning cycles, but I'm
wondering if you used the software instead of just hitting the cleaning
button on the printer. The standard way is to use the software utility and
then click on nozzle check, then if the nozzles are showing a clog to click
on the clean head button again, alternating until one gets all nozzles
firing.
The reasoning for this approach is that the printer will run a more
rigorous clean cycle if this routine is followed. You should actually hear a
more diligent cycling if done in this manner.

Good luck,
