EPSON 580 vs Epson C82

Howdy....On my Epson 580 I had the option of printing in black, using
color ink. Also I could print in black using black ink only. And they
recommended using black ink to conserve on the more expensive color
cartridge.

Comes the C82 where there is no mention at all as to what cartridges
are used to print black!!!! Another sleight of hand forcing people
into using the more expensive color cartidges to print black?

Anybody have the facts? Would appreciate it !.

Are you saying the driver doesn't offer you a check box for black only
printing?

I can tell you that the C82, which uses Durabrite pigment inks, doesn't
use black ink with glossy papers, because the black ink is of a
different formulation and therefore it doesn't stick to glossy papers.

The matte papers use all 4 colors when printing colored images. I
believe with matte papers, an all black text will use only black ink, I
don't know about a black and white image or graphic, however on matte paper.

The C82 prints black differently, depending upon the type of paper you
are printing on.

IIRC, the glossy papers that can handle the color DuraBrite inks do not
handle the black ink well -- it can be brushed right off. So if you tell
the printer it is using glossy paper, it will use the color inks to
create black. On other papers, it will use black for black.

I might have this exactly backwards, but you get the idea.
