Epson 3200 Photo & Smart Panel v2.6A Copy utility not working

I have an Epson 3200 Photo scanner w/ Smart Panel v2.6A on WinXP...
Everything is installed correctly (at least as far as the install
program is concerned)... But when I try to run the Copy utility in
Smart Panel I get the following error and then the utility shuts down:

"Can't stop Initialize Procedure"

This is what Epson has to say about the issue on its support page:

For users having problems with Smart Panel's Copy or PhotoPrint
utilities, check our website for the latest patches and support
documents. If you have questions about Copy or PhotoPrint or the
patches for these utilities, please contact Epson Technical Support.
For information about the latest patches or updates for any of the
other Smart Panel applications, please select Newsoft, Inc. from our
Third Party Contacts page.

So I went to Newsofts page (http://www.newsoftinc.com) and was able to
find the following page describing my problem:

http://www.newsoftinc.com/redir/other_all.asp

But the page does not list a fix for my scanner...

Does anyone know what I'm missing or where I can find the patch or new
version to get the copy functionality working.

Thanks,
roger

Unless they have made improvements in the copy utility, you might not
want to bother. Several of us here have been underwhelmed with the
copy function. For black & white copies to my HP 4L, it appears to
attempt gray scale and half-toning, even when the copy utility is told
the original is "text." Extremely disappointing. All text comes out
fuzzy.

On my Win2K Pro box, I'm popping up the (Kodak) image viewer utility
and "Acquiring" a scan to make copies. This allows telling the
scanner to do 300 (or whatever) dpi and black & white. You can create
a configuration file to save your settings and recall them by name. I
could find no way to convince the Epson-supplied utilities to produce
a B&W copy of equivalent quality.

The hardware is impressive, but the software, in trying to work
"magic," makes strange configuration choices and is an exercise in
frustration.

Good luck with it,

DaveT
