Epson 1270 Severly Cloged

I have an Epson 1270 That has been in storage for about 2 years. I have run
the heads over a Windex soaked paper towel to clean the bottom of the
carriage. I have flushed the heads with a syringe and warm water and
ammonia solution. I have run endless cleaning cycles. The best I can get
is very fain magenta and yellow when doing a nozzle check.

After flushing the heads I can see that all the nozzles are trying to print
but after doing several cleaning cycles they just quit. Any thoughts will
be greatly appreciated. Is this printer TOAST?

Greg

I would return the heads to the parked position after applying a few drops
of Windex to the sponge underneath. Leave like that for a couple of days.
Then try a nozzle clean. It's too soon to give up all hope - I had a
clogged nozzle on my 1290 for 6 months. It resisted all attempts to clear
it. Then it suddenly cleared. I don't know why, though.

If all else fails, you could consider getting a replacement printhead. They
aren't too expensive.

You might find the SSC Service utility useful - it allows to you to perform
nozzle cleaning on either the black or colour nozzles, and has some more
powerful cleaning modes (but they guzzle ink).

You may have to take a peek at how to reset the ink level chip. There is
advice and suggestions here. www.inkylink.co.uk under Epson quirks.
Basically this method allows you to fill an empty (near empty) with either
cleaning fluid or Windolene (USA Windex) ammonia content window cleaning
fluid. and clean from within.
Most often stubborn clogs are just there - below the surface. As the ink
strength fades you have proved the fluid is getting to where it counts.
Good luck.

Thanks All,

I found the problem, the springs were off of the cleaning pad. I replaced
them and now am getting a fairly good nozzle check. I have some cleaning
solvent coming and I think that this printer will be back on line soon.

I have a CIS system coming that I will install on this printer If it cleans
up Ok.

Thanks,
Greg
