Any Epson expert out there ?

Hi all,
I need some advice. My Epson C70 has a couple of heads clogged
(nothing new, you will now think...) and the usual method of putting a
clean piece of lint-free cloth soaked with a solution of water and
ammonia below the printing heads for a couple of hours doesn't give
any positive result.

At this point I think my only last chance is to disassemble the heads
carriage to put them in a cleaning bath overnight. Does anybody know
which exact procedure should I follow to remove this carriage from the
body of the printer ? Any caveats ? Is some sort of realignement
needed after reassembly ? Thanks for any insights.

Alberto

P.S. Or should I forget about Epson and buy a Canon i865 ? My C70 has
less than a year of life, and I hate wasting money...

Phone Epson, they'll replace it.

I agree with the other poster. If it is less than a year let Epson replace
it for you. Are you turning it off using the power button?

The other method which has worked well for many is to fill an old cartridge
with an ammonia solution (Windolene UK) and print some pages. This then
obviously cleans from the inside out.
There are resetters that handle the C70/80 now. More tips are at

Thanks to Tony and to the others who offered advice.
I cannot ask Epson to repair my C70 under warranty, as it is too
evident that I have refilled the cartdriges myself, and I suspect they
don't see this as a Good Thing...

Lacking advices on how to disassemble the heads carriage, I will try
the route of an empty cartridge filled with a cleaning solution. As in
my country neither Windex nor Windolene can be found in a grocery, at
least not under those names, I will use a solution of demineralized
water and ammonia. Can somebody suggest how diluted the ammonia should
be ? Half water and half ammonia would do ?

Thanks again,

Alberto

I would suggest only 10% at most if you are using household ammonia. Windex
or Windolene is a basic very dilute window cleaner...

They will still replace under warranty. They will send you a new one. It
is a myth that they won't fix one that uses aftermarket inks.

Epson sends another printer without cartridges.
Phone Epson, don't tell tem you have refilled if they ask.
Remove the cartridges, clean the printer and have it ready for collection.
If you are afraid to lie to Epson, purchase a new printer.
