entire contents of sent file/folder disappeared out of the blue

while using outlook express yesterday, the entire contents of my sent folder
disappeared- when opened, it was empty. Immediately looked in the deleted
folder and they were not there? How could this have happened, where could
they have gone to and most importanly how do Iget them back? Using the
restore to a previous date help tool, didn't help, when I opened the sent
file for the previous retore date, it too was showing no e-mails? thx Frank
