Engel - A question

Within the last month or so "Siljaline" posted a link to download a small
program that would allow users direct access to their event logs from their
desk top. Any ideas where this download is. Thanks

Hi Tom,

You are right, Mhzjunkie is the one.

I don't have any problem with the link you provide. See here:

How to create a customized view of Event Viewer to show only Windows
Defender event's.
1) Click Start, Run and type in "MMC" (Without the quotes).

2) You should now have the "Console1" window open. At the top of the
"Console1" window click on "File" then "Add/Remove Snap-in".

3) With the "Add/Remove Snap-in" window open, Click the "Add" button. The
next window you'll see is the "Add Standalone Snap-in" window. Within that
window highlight "Event Viewer" and click the "Add" button, then the "Finish"
button and finally the "Close" button. You now will be back to the
"Add/Remove Snap-in" window, click the "Ok" button at this point.

4) Expand the "+" sign beside "Event Viewer (Local)". Right click on
"System" and choose "Rename". Rename it to "Windows Defender". Right click
the "Windows Defender" that you just renamed and go to "View" then "Filter".
Within the window that's now open under "Event Source" click the drop-down
menu and scroll down to find and highlight "WinDefend". Then at the bottom of
that window, click "Ok".

5) Now you should be back to "Console1" the same place in step (4) where you
renamed the system entry to "Windows Defender". Now, right click on "Windows
Defender" and choose "New Window from Here". Now you should be looking at a
"Windows Defender" window. In the upper right hand corner of this window "the
windows defender window" click the maximize button. The square box in between
the " - and X ".

6) You should now be looking at the "Console1 - [Windows Defender]" window.
At the top of the "Console1 - [Windows Defender]" window click on "File" then
"Save As". Save your file to where it's best for you. I saved mine to the
Desktop.

You can now click on the file that you just saved and open the event viewer
to show only Windows Defender event's. This doesn't affect the event viewer
that's under My Computer > Manage in no way what so ever. You can rename the
file that you saved to your desktop, or where ever you saved it, to what ever
you want, just keep the file extension ".MSC". I renamed mine "Defender.msc"

Thanks again Tom, I hope <dxernnj> can use it.

Take care.

Isn't it simpler just to use the filter option in Event viewer? (view menu,
filter, select what you want there).
