endnotes 2007

Greetings (*_*)

I am doing a course in Word 2007 and stuck on the exercise on endnotes.
Instructions say to position cursor where I want the endnote to refer to
then click the 'Insert Endnote' button.
When I do this I jump to the end of the document - no endnote number is
inserted.
When I scroll back to the place the endnote was to refer to - the whole
section (several paragraphs) have disappeared.

Any idea what I am missing please?
Would very much appreciate some direction.

Would very much appreciate some direction.

First, when you click Insert Endnote you will be taken to the end of the
document so you can add your endnote text. Second, if you are showing non
printing characters (formatting marks) it may be difficult to see the
endnote reference since a text boundary (a dotted border) appears around the
endnote reference. If in doubt, turn off your non printing characters.
Third, when you position your cursor is the cursor flashing or do you have
text selected? If you have text selected it should be deselected and the
endnote reference placed at the end of your selection but it doesn't hurt to
verify.
