EndNote and Word 2003

Hello,
I use Thomson Researchsoft's EndNote 7 along with Word 2003. Whenever Word
is loading there is a message at the bottom of the screen, "Running virus
scan..." It causes a delay in Word fully loading. Others on the EndNote
listserv have commented on this problem citing it as related to EndNote; but
none seem to have been able to find a solution through that listserv nor
from the EndNote tech support folks. I have had a similar experience with
the EndNote tech support folks re: this issue. So ... I'm trying this appeal
to Word users. Are there other EndNote/Word users here who experience this
problem? If so, is there a solution? Or is it simply something with which we
have to live? Thanks much!

Try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with Symantec/Norton
AntiVirus. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use

I've not seen anybody complain about this there, but you might want to
repost your message to the microsoft.public.formatting.longdocs group. A
slightly higher proportion of the readers there are using Endnote (although
less than I would expect--you are reaching a much broader base on the
EndNote list). Although I guess what you want to know is whether people
*not* using EndNote have this problem, which would make it clear it isn't
EndNote. Use google groups to search for previous mentions of virus
scanning.

If you *ever* had Norton installed by the way, try the directions from the
other response, as I believe the Office plug-in can be hard to get rid of.
