Encrypting files and folders

Hi, I am using WinXP Home and would like to use its encryption feature. I
am logged on as administrator. When I <right-click> a folder (i.e.My
Documents) and choose Properties, the page that opens under the General tab
has the Attributes at the bottom and to the right has the Advanced Box. I
click on the Advanced Box and the area at the bottom <Compress or Encrypt
attributes>, has only the "Compress contents to save disk space" in normal
type. The "Encrypt contents to secure data" is shaded and won't let you put
a check mark in the box next to it. The "Compress Box" is unchecked, in
fact, I unchecked all the other boxes to make sure they did not affect the
Encrypt feature.
Any ideas on what could lock out this feature? By the way the whole drive
has only NTSF partitions.

Hi

Sorry, WinXP Home does not support EFS...

Well Good God.....What the heck is Microsoft thinking?
Do they delight in putting something in a software version, knowing that
it is really not supported, yet they don't tell you that anywhere. You
spend hours trying to get it to work etc. etc.. Oh sorry....You have to buy
another version if you want to use that option that looked like it was in
the version you have, but really its not. Sorry! Geez! No wonder Linux has
its dedicated followers.
Thanks for the answer though, I do appreciate the quick response. Is
there any add-on encryption programs that will work with WinXP-Home?
