Enable Bidirectional LPT1:

I'm running WinXP SP1 and have an HP1220c Deskjet printer
connected to LPT1: via IEEE-1284 bidirectional cable. The
cable and printer worked fine under Win2000.

I'm trying to enable bidirectional communications via the
LPT1 port using control panel> printers > HP1220c >
Properties > Ports > select LPT1

The "Enable bidirectional support" tick/check box is
greyed out.

How can I enable bidirectional support on this port?
