Empty Temporary Internet Files

Bob S

I am using XP Pro SP2 and IE 6.0.2900. Under Tools/Intenet Options/Advanced
I have a check next to "Empty Temporary Internet Files Floder when browser
is closed". Yet, it does not empty the folder. What do I need to change to
get it to do what I asked it to do with that check-mark?

Thanks.

Hi Frank,

I too would like that option to work ("Empty Temporary Internet Files
Folder when browser is closed") when the item is enabled, but I'd appreciate
a clarification of your advice " Try silj' link."

Thanks.
Andy I.

| That appears to be broken. Try silj' link.

Thanks Frank, I thought it might be that, and tried it, but could find
nothing there referring to the problem, namely "Empty Temporary Internet
Files Folder when browser is closed" (Under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced
check "Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when browser is closed".)
When the browser is closed, the TIF is not emptied.

Still puzzled.

Sometimes totally clearing TIF helps to Get the automatic emptying working.
But not here.

Thanks again, Frank, but I have to agree. That doesn't work
either............................

I think that there must be a common factor that people
haven't twigged to yet. Something that changed recently?
There have been a rash of these complaints.

Here's an excerpt from the answer I gave "bugsyshare"
earlier this week.

<excerpt>
What testing have you done to find the scope of the problem?
I can imagine (for example) that if you have OE open at
the same time that you close the last instance of IE that there
could be a conflict which would prevent IE from clearing the TIF.
Similar conflicts may occur if other applications also use the TIF.
For example, antivirus scanners are notorious for causing unexpected
symptoms. So, does it work if you first close (or kill) everything else
except the last IE window and then close the last IE window
and wait for iexplore.exe to finish processing?

You could use diagnostics such as FileMon and RegMon to find
out what does happen in such a controlled situation (assuming those
tools don't cause a conflict with the TIF <eg>).

BTW I have no experience with the option as I have no interest in
clearing my TIF that way.
</excerpt>

Good luck
