empty pages

hi folks,
I have a user who has 6.0 and cannot load web pages just gettng the page
unavailable screen. The chat softwares all work and other services requiring
connectivity are good, but just web browsing is returning empty pages. Same
applies if he uses Firefox. Other systems on the connection (like this one)
are fine. I cleared the temp, cookies, history and tried again. Still
nothing. He can reboot and have pages briefly but it disappears again shortly
after. Does anyone know what might deprive a terminal of ONLY web browsing
and no other online services? Thanks!

I spoke too soon. The fix I described did work temporarily, but the same
problem returned today. I am now pretty sure that our problems are caused
by
the McAfee automatic software update that they downloaded (I believe) on
Tuesday (7/31). On their website they acknowledge that their update causes
problems in accessing the web. Apparently the solution is to remove their
apps and re-install them. They provide a removal tool on their website:
http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/ Check it out if you haven't already. I haven't
had time to try this yet, but I have downloaded the removal tool to another
computer (that does not have McAfee!), and I will hand carry it to the
computer that has the problem. I'm hoping this is the answer.
