emails with word document changes to winmail.dat

Work stations in my office (SBS) sending word documents started changing
files to winmail.dat for no apparent reason.

Change your default message format from Rich Text to either Plain Text or
HTML. Rich text is only understood by Outlook; ALL other email clients will
either get an attachment named "Winmail.Dat" which they cannot open, or they
get no attachment at all:
