Emails sent twice

Every email I send through Windows Mail is being sent twice. Please can
someone tell me how I stop duplicate emails being sent? This has only
started happening recently and I haven't changed any of my account options.

Thanks.

Look in Tools, Accounts. Make sure you don't have a duplicated
account.

Hello "lindamh42" and Gary,

Well, I also had the strong conviction that "somehow" some of my mails
were being sent out twice; indeed, I used to discover "suddenly" a second
such "duplicated" one in my "Sent Items" Folder with a "later" time stamp!

But what was puzzling me, was the fact that I never clicked myself the
"Send" button for sending out this second edition to the same recipient
and I also do not have an automated send/receive function enabled
(ie. neither at startup nor every xy minutes at Windows Mail's option)!

However, I found out (at least in my case) that such duplicates were...
NEVER transmitted; true!! Yep, this was confirmed to me by several
such recipients involved who I contacted personally over the phone (!).

And now I discovered that in the Header of such "mysterious" duplicate,
the following line is...MISSING (File > Properties > Details):
< X-Mailer: Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6000.16480 > (!!).
Indeed, this one appears ONLY at the first actual transmission! (= in my
case, at the 2nd last line of such Header, just above the last one which is:
< X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.0.6000.16480 >).

Hmm, I really do hope that "other victims" will now also respond to those
"findings" of mine and will comment them "accordingly"; thanks...

With best regards from Switzerland,
Philippe

I also have this problem - when I send an email recipients get two copies and
sometimes when people send me an email I get two copies in my email box .

My husband and I have different email addresses but when I look in tools
accounts as you suggest each one is listed as:
mail.btinternet.com (default)
with the email address underneath

Is there any way around this?
Thanks

Under the Properties for each account, are the account names
the same or somewhat different? Windows Mail typically puts a
(1) suffix on a second account name when the POP3 server is the
same for both accounts. Also, make sure that on the Servers tab,
the username for the two accounts is different.

It is not valid to have both accounts designated as "(default)".
If that is what you have, then I would delete both accounts, restart
Windows Mail and recreate those accounts from scratch.

I don't know what policy BTinternet has, but when you ask for a second
email address, some ISPs only give out aliases which really map to the
same mailbox on the server.

There can be only one "(default)" account within a Windows Mail program.
If yours shows both accounts as "(default)" then something is wrong.
I would delete both accounts, restart Windows Mail, then recreate those
accounts.

Thanks Gary
I deleted one of the accounts - added it back again and it was no longer
listed as default - and it seems to have solved the problem for now.
I'm not sure how they both became default - as far as I know we haven't
changed anything and yet the duplication only started fairly recently
Another Vista mystery
But thanks for helping me - I'm not a 'techy' and this is the second time I
have found help via this discussion group

You're welcome. Glad to hear that resolved the problem.
