Emails disappear when no pst file folder defined

O.k. I know that there has been a lot of post about this subject, but
my case is somewhat different. Here is the setting:

OS: Windows 2000
OL ver.: 2002
Environment: Exchange Server, Roaming profiles

What happened:
One user signs in to another PC, opens up his outlook, however, by
default OL2002 is set to deliver mail to personal folder rather than
to his exchange mailbox. Right before his eyes he sees his email
disappear one by one.

My Action plan:
Go to the PC that he signed on where his email disappeared. Look at
his profile folder which is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Outlook . I was hoping to a .pst file and I did. So I
imported this PST back to his Exchange mailbox only finding that the
emails that was imported were from six months ago. This did not
suprise me, because his archiving settings was set to archive items
older than six months. So, I was puzzled, I searched for other .pst
files in the computer but none of them belonged to his.

What I think happend:
He opened up his outlook, the default was to deliver his mail to a
personal folder, but a default personal folder did not exist. This where I am
lost, where did outlook deliver those email. What can I do to retrieve
his email. Please, help!

By default, his profile would have been set to deliver mail to the Exchange
mailbox unless someone changed it....have you checked all the other possible
issues, such as rules, view settings on inbox, etc?

Yes, I have ruled out the possibilities that you mentioned. Nobody
changed his profile for his mail delivery, I think since Outlook 2002
did not have any service pack installed, that by default, outlook
wants to deliver your mail to a personal file folder. The problem is
that there isn't one defined. The thing that intrigued me is that
where could have those email been delivered to?

No - Outlook can't and won't deliver to a PST file if there isn't one
defined, regardless of SP level. Note - Outlook, configured with and
Exchange mailbox, isn't really doing anything but *opening* the
mailbox....not moving anything.

I suspect you aren't getting complete information....
