Hi, Can I not mail a .pps file that is 10.9 mb in size, through the normal
free web based mail systems, i.e. hotmail, yahoo, gmail? Can I reduce it in
size any way? Zipping only reduces it to 10.4 mb. It is only 3 slides but
contains a wav file too. Any help please? PP2003 in use, tried Pack for CD,
tried zip, tried PFC. Jay

First, did you try to compress your images?

Using your original ppt file...
in slide view, right click on any picture,
choose "format picture",
in the "picture" tab, click the "compress" button,
choose "web/screen resolution" and "compress all pictures".

save the file as a different name and compare the filesize.

You might also consider converting that .wav file to .mp3, then relinking
it.

Good luck,
Steven Michelsen

Thanks Michael, I had visited that page and done all suggested. The slides
are 2 that are just text boxes with a coloured background and using a font I
downloaded from the web and the first slide contains a scanned in pic from a
greeting card, a text box with text and the wav file which is 10.7 mb (hadn't
realised that til just looking now). I had it as an mp3 first but wanted to
embed it to just mail as one thing so I converted it using CDEX. I will now
try John & Steve's suggestions too (thanks all) Jay

If John's solution does not work for you, there is always the option to
resample the wav file using Sound Recorder. Here are the steps to follow

Click the <Start> button
Click <All Programs>
Click <Accessories>
Click <Entertainment>
Click <Windows Sound Recorder>
Click <File>, <Open>

Select the wav file you want to edit.

<Click> On properties and look under Audio Format and it will indicate the
current file setting. In the Choose From drop down window select <Playback
Formats>
Click <Convert Now> leave the format at the default <PCM> the select an
attribute around the 11.025 KHZ, 4bit stereo and select <OK>. Listen to you
conversion and if it sounds okay, save your file with a new filename and
then insert it into your presentation.

Thanks again Michael - I didn't even know that existed. The sound isn't good
enough (tried a few settings) as the song is acoustic and it becomes very
fuzzy. John's solution was what I had already done. I may have to switch
back to MP3 and link the file - would I simply mail the two files together
then and woudl the music play when the .pps file was opened? Many thanks
again, Jay

If your going to go back to MP3, then put the MP3 file into the same folder
before you insert it into the presentation that way when you send both
files, the links should hold, and the music will play.

Thanks Michael - also found something called "SendMyFiles". Not sure about
it but may have a play around. Many thanks again

You might also look at
- http://www.yousendit.com/ - They let you send files up to 100M without
charge.
- http://www.transferbigfiles.com/Default.aspx - They let you send files
up to a gig in size without charge. I use them when I can, since I know the
group who created it.
Both of these offer a variety of security and notification options as well.

If you are looking for a solution not only to reduce the files size
of
Images, graphics, pictures and audio but the whole presentation, you
can try this solution-
Convert PowerPoint to flash to reduce the fiel size by 90%

Although you can use some tools to adjust Images, graphics, pictures
and audio in PowerPoint for a samller size, you will still have
quality loss to some degree. Maybe troublesome and ask for a long
time
to do it.
Conversion to flash may be eaiser. And you will need a powerpoint to
flash converter like

An easy work around that is to use yousendit.com from your browser. It's
free and you can load large files there, enter the email address of your
sendee, and even write a short note to explain to him/her what this is all
about.

The addressee receives an email from yousendit.com with your note and a link
to download the file you posted there. Works like a champ. For a small
charge you can send files up to 1GB in size but files less than 500MB are
free.

Sound recorder will only record up to 1 minute. If you will use it a lot
you can download 1st Sound Recorder for a slight charge. With it you can
record unlimited sound. To change an mp3 file to a wave file without
increasing the size of the file I use CDEX. You can download it free at
