Thanks, Shawn. I still couldn't get that update to work on the 32 or 64.
But I did find the info below.....and it worked! What a relief after all the
stress.

Go to http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
When you start to download the wmutil.zip file,
be sure to choose Save rather than Run.
After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will
show the extraction folder with two files in it, WMUtil.exe and scxout.dll.
Run WMUtil.exe, wait until the buttons become active, then click on
Clear Outbox. It may take a while. Before you start, make sure
Windows Mail is not running.

Well, don't keep the contents of that error box a mystery.
Share with us what it says.

Hi Bob.....the error message says "Installer encountered an error 0x8007000d.
The data is invalid" I have Avast installed.

If you used the standard install for avast!, it's a good idea to uninstall
it,
then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that scans
email.

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Did you previously have a Norton or McAfee antivirus program
installed? If so, did you run the cleanup program these companies
provide to take care of what the uninstall leaves behind?

Did you try both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version of the
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090 hotfix? The one that doesn't
match your version of Vista will just refuse to install, so you might as
well try both of them. If neither will install, you may need to try the
other methods in the WORKAROUND section of its description.
