Email is automatically being read in Outlook 2003

Hello,

I have a rather strange problem with my email in Microsoft Outlook
2003. Basically, any email that comes into my inbox, anywhere from 10
seconds to 5 minutes, the mail gets marked as read (goes from bold to
unbold).

I have disabled the "mark messages as read" option in the reading pane
as well as the following:

1) deleted my OST file (we used cache mode)
2) Disabled Cache mode
3) log into a different PC
4) log into another PC and used webmail

Between each PC change, I shut down Outlook on the previous PC.

None of the above helped, so obviously, this isn't a local PC issue. I
thought it may be an open webmail session somewhere, but since it's now
been 3 months, that session would have timed out a long time ago. Now,
here's some weird things:

1) If I setup a rule to direct email sent to my inbox to a subfolder in
that same inbox, the messages remain unread.
2) I had a user send me a mail and request a read receipt. He actually
got a read receipt which I wasn't expecting.

On the enterprise level, we use McAffee VirusScan and a Barracauda spam
blocking appliance. I checked both and neither have rules to read my
email.

Any suggestions. My current solution is deleting my NT user account and
recreating it with a new mailbox, but I'd rather not go that route.

I closed my Outllok client over the weekend, and logged into my webmail
after 2 days. Even there, the email has all been marked as read. In
case anyone needs to know, I do not use a blackberry.

Nah, rules are clean as a whistle. Only rule I have is to move certain
email out of my inbox as I described earlier, which was after these
problems were done. I also tried all the suggestions here:

At this point, I'm giving it another day. If no solution, I'll backup
my email and have the network admin here delete my entire NT and
exchange account and rebuild it. It'll be a drag redoing all my
permissions and stuff, but I don't have much choice now.

Just to put some closure (especially for anyone turning up this post in
a search) for this topic. Problem was never solved gracefully. However,
rather than nuking my NT account, including email, we just deleted my
Exchange account after I exported my mailbox. We left it deleted
overnight and recreated it the next morning. Took a few hours to
replicate, but now email is arriving into the mailbox, unread until I
actually read them.

Not the solution I was looking for, but at least it worked.
