editing pictures

when i try to edit a pic in my folder i get an error message saying this file
does not have a programme associatd with it for performing this action,
create an association in the folder options control panel

I have no idea how to do this, please can somebody advise me.

Right click and click open with.
Then pick a program that will properly edit the photo and make sure you
check the little box so it remembers.

Rightclick the file, choose 'open with', put a check at the bottom in
'Always Use This...", and click the icon or "Browse" button to go to the app
you want to use.
