Easy Transfer Issues

I have followed all the instructions regarding the Belkin Easy Transfer
Cable. I have tried it every way they describe and even went online and did
what PCLync tech support suggested and now they are telling me it's a
microsoft issue or something.

I have both cables plugged in, the PCLync up and running, the green light is
on on the cable and nothing happens. My computer doesn't have a connection.
I tried to set up a new USB connection and it wont work. I even tried the
Windows Easy Transfer and nothing happens. It gets stuck on this one screen
and doesn't ask me what I want to transfer.

Can someone please help me or at least direct me somewhere I can get help
from? I am seriously considering asking for Windows XP on my new laptop
because this isn't working.

Just in case you haven't done this, here's the procedure:

1. Install the Easy Transfer software on the old machine.
2. Connect the two computers with the special cable.
3. The screen on the new computer will appear and it looks like you
can't do anything (you can't).
4. Go to the *old* computer and you will be able to choose what files
you want to transfer over.

Are you doing that?

I will try this when I get home tonight and let you know tomorrow if it
works.
Thank you for your quick response. :)

Malke - I tried this and the screen where you can do nothing came up on both
computers. It said it would automatically detect the connection but it
didn't. My desktop "old" computer is not on the internet as we have
wireless. There is an error with my USB driver but I dont know how to help
it. I've installed the drivers from the CD. HELP???

If there is an error with your USB driver you're SOL. Just back up your
data to cd/dvd instead and copy it to your user account on the new
machine. I've used the Easy Transfer (Belkin) for a client and it worked
well but if it doesn't work for you then there's always the
old-fashioned way instead.

I have the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable/software, both properly installed, and
I encounter the same problem. When WET is started on the XP side only the
WET Welcome screen is displayed; clicking on 'Next' causes the CPU to run up
to 100% for a time, then nothing - Task Manager shows 'Not Responding'. I
have viewed the install and error logs, both indicate errors, yet the errors
are impossible to comprehend and are therefore worthless.

Uninstall, cleanup, and reinstall cycles have been repeated several times
with A/V, A/S, and firewalls disabled - same result. This has been most
frustrating. As an experiment I have installed WET on two additional XP-SP2
machines. One fails exactly the same way, the other appears to work, or at
least progresses through several more screens.

Frustration is compounded by virture of the fact that there appears to be NO
SUPPORT for WET, especially bizzare considering that Microsoft wants
customers to move to Vista! I have scoured newsgroups and forums, posted my
error logs, and I keep searching all to no avail. I have contacted Belkin
and await a follow-up call from them but I'm not especially confident a
solution will be forthcoming, WET is a Microsoft creation.

Rational responses will be greatly appreciated.

My apologies in advance if this is redundant. I posted a reply to a slightly
different topic, then felt it might not get the visibility I'd like in the
hope of obtaining a solution.
