Easy Transfer connects & then shows disconnected cable

First, I used Easy Transfer Companion (beta) with the USB Easy Transfer
(Belkin) cable to transfer (successfully) programs from my old XP (SP2)
computer to my new Vista Home Premium computer.

Then, attempting to transfer files & settings using Easy Transfer, it starts
by showing that the two computers are connected through the USB Easy Transfer
cable. But after gathering the files and settings and providing the "amount"
(e.g., 1.6 GB), it starts gathering information and then shows a symbol for
an unconnected cable in the upper right of both computers and basically stops
in its tracks (no further motion, nor any indication--other than the
disconnected cable symbol in the upper right corner--that I need to do
anything). I've tried this three times, and it keeps happening at exactly
the same place.

I probably won't spend too much time on this (after all, Easy Transfer
Companion (beta)--where I need the Easy Transfer USB cable--worked), since I
can (at least I hope I can) complete the transfer of files and settings using
a DVD. Still, I wonder if there is any reason why (a) the cable would work
for Companion (beta) and (b) start out Easy Transfer by showing a connection
and then (c) showing a disconnection which then basically just freezes
everything. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Thank you, but unless I'm missing something, this doesn't address my problem.
The Easy Transfer USB cable worked for Easy Transfer Companion (beta) but
(despite initial confirmation that the computers were connected) not for Easy
Transfer itself. The referenced link you provided is to general instructions
about how to use Easy Transfer.

As you stated, "you are not spending too much time on it", and neither am I.

Your question was out of curiosity, as you have finished your Transfer.

My input was merely for you to see if there was any helpful info for you.

Obviously, there was not!
