Earthlink Total Access 2004

Earthlink Total Access 2003 or 2004 will download from the
Internet or from disk, however both will not install past
error messages past a screen titled"How will you be
connecting to Earthlink?" Several first line techs plus
the CEO's select tech crew are unable to complete the
installation. I even tried to use the compatibility tab
to load as if in Windows 98, but that did not work either.
Anybody know how to complete the installation or what the
problem of incompability is?
