E-mail disappears

I have Outlook 2003 running on a Windows XP desktop. It connects to Exchange
2003 on a Windows Server 2003 Domain. When I am using Outlook I will
occasionally open and email and it disappears. It vanishes, being not in my
Deleted Items, Junk E-mail or Inbox. Does anyone have an idea of the
possible cause and cure?

Do you have any rules in place? Are you filtering your view to see only
unread messages?

The only rules would be the default rules for Small Business Server 2003
running Exchange 2003. The filters are off. The Junk E-mail filter is set
to low.
