With my hand-me down laptop wiith WindowsXP Professional, if I attempt to
contact some websites via the "E-mail us" button, an error window opens and
details some inability to send due to some server, SMTP, POP3, problem. I'm a
novice and don't even understand the terminology. Difficult even to know what
questions to ask. Can this problem be resolved? If so, how in "laymans' "
terms please.

Do you have an e-mail account set up with OE ad the default e-mail client?
Can you send regular e-mail using OE, such as to yourself?

Please post the error message in its entirety. You can left click on it to
highlight and then right click to copy and then paste it into this thread.

No E-mail account with OE. Not sure about regular E-mail using OE. I'll try
but I suspect not. Never tried copy, paste. More than likely I will have to
write it down then type it here. Thank you for your patience

Don't worry about the error message. You can't send via OE if you don't
have an account set up with your ISP. What e-mail client /do/ you use?

I have no ISP. My wireless busscard allows me to connect to the internet
wherever I receive a signal ie. my local library, coffee shop, radio shack
etc. My E-mail account is with Windows Live Hotmail. While I don't remember
setting up an account with OE, my name does appear at the top of the OE page
anytime I bring it up from my start button, programs. This is where all of my
unsent E-mails reside. All resulted in the same error message. "The host SMTP
could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name
correctly. Account POP3 server. SMTP. Protocol SMTP Port;25, server(SSL) No,
Socket Error 11001, Error Number 0X800 CCCOD." Thank You.

Make sure Windows Live Hotmail is set as your default e-mail client.

Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults |
Custom + Down Arrow | Select the radio button for Windows Live Hotmail.

If this does not resolve it, follow up at this newsgroup. Explain that
clicking on a Mailto link at a Website brings up OE instead of WL Hotmail.

Right, sorry I thought the first time I attempted to post that last reply did
not post. Thought I lost it. Following your instructions I find two radio
buttons at "choose a default e-mail program". "Use my current e-mail program"
or "Outlook Express". Things are looking up. "Use--------" is the button that
is selected. If I select OE would I then be able to send those hung up
e-mails in OE, then have the ability to return to "Add or Remove Programs"

forth as need be or have I got it totaly wrong.Seems as if I can only select
