Have a movie with the above description. The extension says .avi and has a
WMPlayer icon but will not play in Media Player. Error message says :
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the
file type or might not support the codec used to compress the file." I ran
GoVideo and it did not recognize the file and my PC has 190 codecs, but not
this one? Where do I go from here? Thanks, Steve T.

Download this program

In the top right corner it will tell you what codec was used to
encode the video. Google for the codec and install it. That should
solve your problem

Thanks Sam, but I've already done that. GSpot says
File Type:Unknown
MIME Type:Unknown
and thus all else is grayed out. Steve T

It sounds like your file is damaged. You could try repairing it
with AVI Fixed but without knowing the codec used, I wouldn't get
my hope up too much. The program rebuilds the index of divx & xvid
videos. Make a backup first.

AVI Fixed (freeware)

I just Googled to see if there was anything else out there and came
up with AVI Fix Joiner but I can't tell you if it's any good or
not. They state a 80 - 90% success rate and it's not freeware. If
AVI Fixed doesn't work then maybe it would be worth while to check
this one out.
