DVD+RW Crashing XP Pro

I recently had a hard drive crash and was obliged to reinstall XP-Pro SP2.
My DVD/CD player will read data cd's perfectly. If I insert a DVD (data or
otherwise), the system crashes with Event ID 1003 Error code 0000007f,
parameter1 00000000, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4
00000000.

Everything worked prior to the reinstall. DVD's can now only be read if I
boot in safe mode.
I have installed all the latest updates & drivers to no avail

Any ideas.

What is the name make of the computer, DVD-RW drive etc.. The burning app or
other related apps you use? Are they updated and or current versions?

You might try this, download cdgone.zip and backup your registry to be safe
(read the readme file) and merge the cdgone.reg (right click, merge) file to
the
registry and reboot the computer. This action can clear up the problems in
the registry as relates to cd/dvd devices, though
you will also have to reinstall any third party cd/dvd related burning apps
etc.. if they are required or needed, it's your choice..

Read up here..

Try running the Nero infotool to id the drive string and firmware version as
a last resort..
