DVD Player is set to PIO Mode

I have a TDK DVD burner and a Memorex DVD player on the
secondary IDE channel in my system. I have set the
settings on the controller to DMA if available. The TDK
unit (slave) always goes to DMA mode, the Memorex unit
(Master) sometimes will go to DMA mode, but most times
will be in PIO mode. Any ideas?
